What the devil is going on here?!

Here’s an interesting perspective I considered during the episode concerning Marley’s mother.

While I certainly applaud the sacrifice, is she really doing the best thing for her daughter? What is she teaching her? That even an adult is bound by the school power hierarchy? That chasing popularity is important and valuable? That she should be ashamed of her mother and her means? That she should pretend to be something she’s not?

While the mother seems perfectly lovely and just genuinely interested in making her daughter’s school life the best she can, is she really doing the best thing for her?

Food for thought.
