Look, I’m not trying to bash forward thinking but saying things like “it’s 2012 why is this even an issue? Why are we even still talking about this?” is kind of worthless. It goes without saying that in the present moment we are the most advanced that we have ever been as a race. However, the same goes for any present moment. So on this day in 1962 we were as far forward in time as we’d ever been and therefore the most advanced and people were saying the same thing. In 1890 we had been making and continuing to make really significant technological advances and again people were saying the same thing but about different issues. Pick a year and you’ll find the same pattern. What I’m trying to say is, drawing attention to our state of being in the present is not a new point to make and the age we are living in is irrelevant to the argument because the struggles we are facing now ARE the age we’re living in. They define how we think and process the world at this point in time and highlight what’s important to us. They only present themselves as struggles because of where we are as a race. We are always pushing for more and expecting better of our species and as a result there is always, and will always be, a dissatisfaction with our present.
Needs to be said
12I just saw this on my dash and unfollowed the person who posted it which is shame because they post quality things when they aren’t hating on the first world, posting anit-government graphics or offensive Atheistic slander.
My first thought was…seriously? What a way to start your year. Then my second thought was, screw this. That is incredibly depressing and if you want to believe that then I’m not letting you anywhere near my life.
I’m not stupid and I realise people find themselves in awful situations - or worse, trapped in them - but why convince yourself that your year is going to be a bad one? Why not believe it will get better; that you’ll find your sanctuary in the chaos or better yet get out of it altogether? And, furthermore, why not intend on doing something about it instead of feeling sorry for yourself!? Assuming that you don’t want your year to be fucked up then the first thing you have to change is yourself.
Over 7,000 notes? Over 7000 people (obviously a lot more) are going into this year actively and publicly speaking this shit over their lives? Part of me wants to feel bad for you but right now I’m mostly just angry at the apathy I see. No wonder “depression” is such a huge issue in our society when people perpetuate the myth with stuff like this. Depression, unless brought on by a mental illness, is a state of mind. Choose a better one. Choose a better year.
Okay so can RDJ & Jude Law host next year?
2099This.
