I don’t know what to say.
I’m not as affected as Bonnie but I don’t think the parents are doing it right… I really appreciate their sentiments of not forcing their child into a mould - I plan to do the same thing - but there are many less damaging ways to do it. Children NEED guidence. They don’t have the ability to assume their own identity. Hell, people spend their whole life searching for themselves. You are basically asking this child to make deep, philsophical decisions about themselves when they literally can’t. They should be teaching their children. It’s not obnoxious to make decisions for your child IT’S PARENTING! Plus, think of the utter confusion this child will be thrown into once he’s put into social situations filled with gender polarised kids. In my opinion, admirable though it may be, they are signing this kid up for a life of therapy. Turning him into a flag. I don’t think Bonnie or I dislike the concept of a child free from ugly gender restrictions but rather we are concerned for the welfare of the child.
