!!?!??!!! THIS IS THE BEST ?!?!?
So I’m not actually clear what happened in the USA re gay marriage today. I know that’s it’s a high up deal - I think I read supreme court somewhere. Nor do I know the result/when we can expect it. Care to fill me in?
My response to straight men against marriage equality.
The first Male gay winner of Big Brother Australia Benjamin proposes to his boyfriend on live TV.
I’ve never watched this show, in fact I dislike it immensely, but this. shit. is. important. YAY AUSTRALIA!
"Self-evidently gay marriage is a matter of natural justice. It in no way stops religions or individuals acting in accord with their conscientious views. It’s not a left-right issue"
We are historically proven to be copy-cating America but through our British-Australian filter. Therefore, always one step behind. As a culture we would scoff at the idea that we feel the need to be like any other culture. We make fun of other Western societies (or any society really - ‘larrikinism’ is one of our only unique traits). However, Australia is a patchwork that exists through cultural appropriation; an infant nation sewn together out of bits of everyone else because we were born into a world that had already established it’s identities with centuries of conflict and growth. We had no time to separate ourselves from the other Western nations and the world just keeps moving faster.
This post has become a lot deeper than I intended but basically we’re too dependant on Britain and America to legalise gay marriage without them.

It’s basically a page dedicated to opposing gay marriage in Australia. It makes me feel sick. It’s full of all the most stomach churning comments about marriage. And not outright hate messages or anything like that. That’s easily ignored and written off as ugly words from ugly people. It’s those comments from people who think they’re justified and protecting something that are the worst.

IT’S LIKE A FOUNDATION MADE FOR ME! CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVISM AND BOWTIES!
THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT! This perfectly explains the basis of my own conclusions on this issue except it is infinitely better researched. I cannot recommend enough that EVERYONE NEEDS TO WATCH THIS VIDEO. Even if you are the least religious person ever you need to watch this. This is about educating yourself so that you can be informed enough to defend homosexuality to a religious person and also so you can understand that God is not an asshole who hates gays. PLEASE I BEG OF YOU WATCH THIS! Also, this isn’t even the full extent of biblical support for homosexuality, this is just mainly debunking the 6 (yeah there’s only 6) Bible verses that allegedly condemn homosexuality. You don’t have to believe in God for this to be really important.
Freedom to Marry and Servicemembers Legal Defense Network launched Freedom to Serve, Freedom to Marry to highlight the stories of how the so-called Defense of Marriage Act hurts gay military families. Watch the video and share it.
Thanks for making cry like a small child. Also, I can no longer comprehend any argument against gay marriage. It all seems so ridiculous I can scarcely believe people could be so blind.
Nat made a video about marriage equality which I think you should watch because it’s great and Natalie is also great and because I said so. Yes.
This is an EXCELLENT foundational and unbiased video (apart from her own opinion at the end). Share it with everyone.
"Marriages are intensely personal, and they’re defined not by courts or by voters, but by the people who live inside of them. That’s traditional marriage, people making a private, daily, lifelong commitment. We can’t make gay marriage illegal because gay marriage is already happening, and it’s been happening for as long as human beings have been pledging themselves to each other. But tragically we deny gay people the rights and the obligations that are associated with their marriages, and that is just discrimination. There will be marriages you don’t like, but those marriages won’t affect yours."
